Turf Care

Aeration

This is an important step in alleviating soil compaction in your yard. The aeration allows air and water flow into the root zone, and encourages soil microbes to beak down thatch layers.

De-thatching

A dethatcher (or power rake) is used to rake turf areas to remove dead grass and organic matter that has not yet decomposed. This encourages the grass to send out deeper roots into the actual soil — which provides its source of nutrients.

Over-seeding

Simply stated, this is the process of placing seed over an existing lawn. There are two critical steps in over seeding: 1) Ensure good soil to seed contact for proper germination and 2) proper watering. A lawn should be checked for any excessive amount of thatch before over seeding. Thatch can keep the seed and fertilizer from making good contact with the soil and result in disappointing performance.

Arbor Masters has adopted the practice of over seeding with a machine called a slit seeder. As the name suggests, this machine cuts a small slit into the soil and drops the seed into that cut. We continually see excellent results in the residential and commercial markets with this process.
